As required by state laws, Indiana auto insurance must contain liability coverage. Auto insurance requirements in this state start at 20/50/10.

This means that each Indiana auto insurance policy must contain at least a minimum amount of coverage of $20,000 for bodily injury liability per person, and $50,000 minimum for total bodily injury liability per accident. The last refers to $10,000 minimum coverage limit for property damage liability.

The said liability insurance coverage will pay for the injuries or property damages the policyholder may cause to other people and their properties. If the costs of injuries and damages exceed those limits, the policyholder is responsible to pay for the difference. Due to such limitation, a policyholder who will opt to purchase liability coverage with higher limits will have better protection.

In addition, said liability coverage is only limited to paying for the damages that a policyholder have inflicted to other people. For this matter, a policyholder may also opt to purchase Medical Payments to provide cover to injuries that he or his passengers might obtain in an accident. He may also opt to include Indiana Collision and Comprehensive coverage to protect one’s vehicle.

As for protection against uninsured or underinsured motorist, a policyholder may decide whether to have the minimum coverage limit of $50,000 or none at all.
