Former Hamilton, NJ official Admits On Insurance Bribe

The information as released from the US Attorney for the District of New Jersey said that Watney pleaded guilty to one count of money laundering before District Judge Peter Sheridan on June 29.

Warney was accused that on May 12, 2011, he accepted a $5,000 check in behalf of Bencivengo from an insurance agent who later turned to be a cooperating witness in the cased filed against him. It was learned, that the witness’ employer at that time was providing health insurance brokerage services to Hamilton’s School District. Warney disclosed that he, along with Bencivengo and the unnamed witness shall conceal the check payment by naming it to Warney’s wife as payment for a bedroom set.

On June 21, 2012, Bencivengo was indicted by a federal grand jury to the alleged bribery that amounts to $12,400. The mayor is accused of soliciting and accepting a bribe for helping an insurance company maintain its position as the health insurance broker for Hamilton’s school district.

Warney is scheduled for sentencing on October 9, 2012 before US District Judge Anne E. Thompson.
