Pittsburgh Dentist Arrested For Insurance Fraud, Theft

Alleged to have continued his practice though his license was already suspended, a Pittsburgh-area dentist was arrested recently and has been charged with insurance fraud.

In a statement released late last month, the Attorney General’s office identified the accused as Thomas Wasiko, 55, of Elizabeth. Wasiko is being charged or two counts of insurance fraud and two counts for theft by deception.

Wasiko’s license was already suspended in November 2010 by the Department of State for at least six months but prosecutors said that despite the suspension of his license, the dentist still continued his practice. Allegedly, the dentist submitted more than 100 insurance claims for dental services to the United Concordia Insurance, worth over $10,000. The complaint further revealed that the dentist received nearly $5,000 from the said insurance company.

According to a report from the Insurancejournal.com, after being arrested, Wasiko was also released. The preliminary hearing for the charges filed against him was set on July 9, 2012.
