Margaret S. Cherone, a Clifton resident, is now West New York, New Jersey newest chief financial officer.

Cherone’s appointment came after township commissioners voted 4-1 on July 18, 2012 to appoint her to the said post.

Only Commissioner Count Wiley voted against hiring Cherone, saying he had never interviewed the financial officer. Wiley said that due to that fact, he does not know whether Cherone will be the best candidate for the job.

On the other hand, township mayor Felix Roque said that he reached out several times to Wiley on the said matter but the commissioner was not able to respond.

The chief financial officer post became vacant after West New York town officials chose not to renew the contract of John Mosca.

Cherone’s work experience includes being the Passaic County acting finance director, Paterson’s finance director, and CFO of Caldwell in Essex Count since April 2010.
